The AO3 bots are getting really annoying. The comments are starting to sound almost real. Which sucks, because it takes you longer to realize it's not someone genuinely liking your fic.

In other news, my job is a dumpster fire. Everyone wants to quit. My closest co-worker friend is thinking of applying for a manager position in another department, and I'll be happy for her, but I'm kinda bummed (she's good, she'll get it). They are chasing off all the good ones. All because they refuse to hire the help they desperately need. Like they'd rather lose money due to all the mistakes being made. We lost one of our supervisor's today, and the lousy ones are left. Except for mine. If she ever left, I might have to look for another job myself.

The cake had been brought in half an hour ago, lit up with so many candles that a fire extinguisher was on hand. Now, the guests of honor and guests were sitting around the table, polishing off generous slices and washing them down with freshly brewed coffee. Conversation and laughter flowed easily.

They marked different anniversaries over the years; Sonny Crockett and Rico Tubbs chose to celebrate the day they became partners in Miami. That was the moment life irrevocably changed forever. The magic of their connection was there from the start, and it set everything that came afterward in motion.

“Well, I bet you didn’t think you’d ever make it this far?” Stan Switek said as he helped himself to a second slice.

Sonny shared a look and a smile with his partner of 42 years.

“Nah,” Rico answered with a teasing grin, “we knew it was forever.” He leaned over to give Sonny a peck on the cheek. It wasn’t quite literally true; it had taken them a few more years to realize what they meant to each other, but even at the beginning their bond was unbreakable.

“Aww…” Trudy cooed at the affectionate kiss, while Billy Crockett’s young grandson made gagging noises, as kids often do at adult PDAs.

Sonny didn’t mention that back then he hadn’t expected to live this long. It wasn’t anything his husband didn’t already know, and not a sentiment for such a happy occasion. Besides, they’d both survived being cops and broken free a long time ago. Since then, life had been beneficent. They’d settled down together, surrounded by family and friends. There were the usual ups and downs, hard times and struggles, but the love and respect between them kept them strong as life changed around them. They watched domestic partnership laws take effect. In 2003, they moved to Massachusetts to legally tie the knot. They celebrated with everyone when marriage equality was finally achieved countrywide in 2015. Enjoyed the satisfaction of watching children grow up and grandchildren come into the world. Through it all, they had each other.

As it was always meant to be.
