Um. So many pretty shots. About 180, split between the two entries. I've picked the best ones to be midsize or large, and there are many thumbnails of alternate shots and shots not featuring the boys, so hopefully it won't be too slow to load for y'all. The picture quality for this episode wasn't terrific--a lot of the shots were dark and/or grainy, and I've done what I can with the caps to make them look better.
That said, I'd just like to say...wow. Lots of yummy shots of the boys. Lots of touching. This is one of my fave eps.
As always, click to embiggen the smaller shots.
So we open with a sad guy, who is in a cantina called "the American Fisherman," drinking his sorrows away. In walk two Mean Dudes out of central casting. They threaten the sad guy, whose name is Lane Preston. Lane is upset about someone named Dee Dee Gideon, who turns out to be his wife.

Lane is dragged out into the street, and the Boss Mean Dude is there with Dee Dee. Boss Mean Dude has evidence of a crime Dee Dee committed and is holding her hostage until Lane pays him more money. Boss Mean Dude drives off with Dee Dee still in the car because Lane has no more money.

Meanwhile, back on the Riptide...

Um. Yeah, Nick's posterior. So fine that even the Roboz is checking it out. Do you blame it, though? Anyway, the Roboz has a broom because it's been programmed to knock the pelican off the back of the boat. (This is one of the few things that actually squicks me about the show--you can see the fishing line tied around the poor pelican's leg.)

And here we have a tale of two sandwiches. On a single plate. Two beers, though. Cody is reading Yachting magazine again. Nick wonders why the pelican can't find a "girl pelican" and stop haunting the Riptide.

Cody tells Nick that Murray's been feeding the pelican. And then Murray is about the cutest thing in the entire world when he admits that, yes, he's fed the pelican. Twice. Seriously. So adorable.

Needless to say, Nick and Cody do not approve. (I believe this is the last pelican appearance in the show, thank goodness. There might be another scene, but I think it's recycled footage.)

The boys hear someone calling their names and they go to the edge of the boat, where GotW shows up on the dock and asks to come aboard. Turns out she's Lane's daughter, and she's friends with Nick and Cody.

Of course, there's time for a quick back-of-the-hand rub as Nick walks past Cody. Nice view, isn't it? Cody's posterior is damned impressive. As well as his thighs. And calves. Seriously, the man's body is a work of art.

Okay, so the plot here is that GotW (Brandi Preston) is worried about her dad, Lane, because he's vanished to Mexico, where he apparently had a house in Cabo San Lucas--but he's sold it and won't answer her calls. She's tried contacting both him and his new wife Dee Dee and been unsuccessful. During the course of the conversation she reveals that she tried hiring a different detective agency first. Cody says to Nick (and pats him on the shoulder): We don't mind being second choice, do we, big guy? Then she mentions other agencies, and they realize that they were more like third or fourth choice.

Murray is confused at first because he doesn't know Lane or GotW, but then he really gets into the concept. Murray: Risk is our business.

Just for visual reference, GotW.

The boys will take the case. They announce they'll go to Mexico to investigate.

Nick is pretty. And the lighting is nice, for once.

Murray is totally excited about going to Mexico. He's so excited that Cody has to calm him down.

The boys take off for the Barefoot Contessa, which Dee Dee used to work on. Cody: Permission to come aboard? Mama Jo: Why? Nick: What the hell kind of answer is that? You're supposed to say permission granted! *hearts Nick*

The boys look delicious and stand very very close, though I have to say that I'm glad that Nick's shirt isn't long for this world. Anyway, the boys are asking why Mama Jo fired Dee Dee Gideon. Turns out she was a golddigger. Cody says they know she was fired, but he wants to hear the information "straight from the horse's mouth." She asks him if he's saying she's a horse. Nick: Cody lacks what we call in polite society 'idiomatic grace' and then smooths it over. After Mama Jo explains the golddigger thing, the boys are confused about why Dee Dee married Lane, because Lane doesn't seem very wealthy, but Mama Jo doesn't know anything about that.

She does, however, know all about them and their extracurricular activities.

Um. Pretty boys.

Back on the Riptide, the boys wonder about Dee Dee and why she took up with Lane. Cody: Maybe she fell in love, Nick. It does happen. Nick: Yeah, I heard that rumor once. I think. Poor guy. He's definitely been burnt before. Of course, in my world, it went more like this... Nick: "I want to know what love is..."

"And I want you to show me, Cody..."

"Or maybe I'll just drink more beer."

Murray, of course, taps into the IRS computer on a dime. Because it's so easy. And finds out that Lane has money--he actually sold the Clam Cooker for $420,000.

See, it says so right here. Doesn't this look like a real IRS tax record?

Mimi!! Go Nick! On a side note, I just want to mention that the panel behind him is different than it was in this shot from the Great Geeks episode. It looks like the panel from GG is to the right. Maybe they do some of the closeups a little closer to center, just so the windshield frame isn't in the way? I'm a little scared that I noticed this. Tightly focused--that's me.

Now this is a cute shot. Y'know, that's one of the big limitations of the Mimi--having to grab taxis or rent cars when she can't quite land close enough to the target. Or when they need to be more mobile.

Murray is totally geeked to be in Mexico.

Quick look at Nick's posterior as he steps into the American Fisherman. Lane is there, deep in his DT's, and he sees his daughter and the boys and takes off running.

The boys give chase, running around the cantina to look for Lane. They touch each other quite a bit here. Nick's right shoe sounds like it's squeaking, but it could be the duck that's in the frame. My favorite touch is after Cody says You go right, I'll go left. It's awesome because instead of saying, "Yep," Nick reaches out and touches him. Who needs words? And also, yay. Cody: Why would he run? We're his friends! Um, Cody, GotW is his daughter, too. heh. Anyway, they go back in and decide to ask the bartender about Lane.

The bartender claims to not speak English. Nick tries to bribe him with a twenty. Nick: Now what are the odds that a bartender in a joint with a name like [the American Fisherman] no habla de Inglés?

"Cody, if this bartender doesn't spill his guts, I'm going to redecorate the place."

"Seriously. Helicopter decor. PINK helicopter decor."

"Nick, this is why you're never touching MY BOAT."

I love this. Nick is offering the bartender another "tenspot." *snorts* The total bribe is forty dollars. The bartender tells them that Lane is living on the beach "by the big rock."

Murray is totally sweet and supportive, of course, comforting the GotW.

The boys are waiting. They want their tenspot's worth. But then the bartender runs away when they try to get him to reveal who Lane's enemies are. They don't chase him, though.

Meanwhile, back at the Mean Dude Compound, we see Boss Mean Dude, Random Bikini Girl, and one of the Mean Dudes, whose posterior gives Cody's a run for the money. (Hard to believe, but it's true.) The bartender calls Boss Mean Dude and reveals that some people are trying to get in contact with Lane, so he sends over Mean Dudes to kidnap Lane.

The boys and GotW go to investigate Lane's idyllic beach home near the big rock. Lane is about to put some coffee on.

Cody: "Nick, can we go home yet? It's been at least twelve hours since we did anything naked together..."

GotW runs up to Lane and hugs him. Lane is horrified that she's there. He asks Nick and Cody to take her home. When they don't leave, Lane starts freaking out, and wants everyone to get inside in case the Mean Dudes see them.

The boys are pretty. I bet that some of their clothing is tailored specifically for them. I mean, I doubt the jeans are, except maybe hemming the length, but the shirt Cody is wearing here fits him like a glove. Nick's shirt could have come off the rack, though.

Nick is worried about the bartender alerting the Mean Dudes, and wants someone to watch while they're inside. Murray volunteers, but Nick waggles his finger at Cody and Cody does it instead.

Nick asks Lane where Dee Dee is. Lane lies and says she's shopping. Nick brings up the four hundred grand and wants to know what happened to it.

Lane says that Nick has no idea what's going on and then he starts capslocking about how they all need to GET THE HELL OUTTA HERE. I don't know if it's just me, but this guy is not the greatest actor. He's a little too strained. Though he definitely throws himself into the role, seriously. I think he deafens poor Joe in a later scene where Nick frees him from the Mean Dudes.

Then there's a yell from Cody, which means Nick needs to run outside and check on his blonde. Sure enough, Cody's been knocked down.

Nick insists on going to Cody, despite guns being pointed at him by Mean Dudes.

Mean Dude with Impressive Posterior, gesturing at the boys: Who are they? Lane: I don't know. I've never seen them before. They're friends of some friends of mine from King Harbor. *blinks* Uh, he makes it sound like the latest tourist sensation. Come see the drunk on the beach and laugh and point! It's great! Check out the big rock while you're there!

Nick: Why don't we head back to the Mimi and pick up some firepower. Choppers solve everything! And again, we have the fact that the Mimi is pretty much an artillery dump. Not that any of you were disputing this. I do find it interesting that as soon as Cody's attacked, Nick wants to pull out the big guns.

Back at the hotel, Cody loads the guns, Nick does the domestic clothes-organizing, and Murray watches the girl, noticing that she's upset and suggesting they comfort her. Typical.

GotW mentions that she was a little worried about asking them to help her because she dated them both.

Nick is taken aback. He had no idea that Cody had dated her. What really stands out here for me is that he was pretty friendly to her when she came up to the boat in the beginning of the ep. Like, is he always that friendly and excited to see a girl who dumped him? Uh, knowing Nick, I doubt it. Unless he was relieved that she dumped him. heh.

"Cody, that's funny, I could have sworn that she just said you dated a girl."

"It was while you were away for Reserves duty."

Nick is Not Amused.

Murray, of course, is trying to steer them back to the case at hand. He wonders if there's some angle they can use to find Dee Dee. Like clothing or food preferences.

Cody says that when he used to take Dee Dee to the bar, she'd always insist on ordering a drink called Saspathrilla. Murray wonders aloud what it is, and Cody recalls the recipe. Cody calls it "mule-kickin' awful" and I have to agree.

Nick is Really Not Amused. Nick is pointy. He doesn't believe that Cody dated Dee Dee because she was one of Mama Jo's girls. He has a snit fit over said dating.

Poor Cody is on the phone, and in one of the very best Riptide scenes, is attempting to talk to a bartender in a mixture English and Spanish and find out if they serve Saspathrillas (which would mean that Dee Dee is a customer) while Nick is even more pointy and energetically unamused about the fact that Cody dated a girl. And Murray is helping with Spanish words and trying to get Nick to stop pointing. The combination is hilarious. I've watched it several times and I have to say that I'm quite impressed with the timing. Thom Bray does a really great job with timing here, especially.

The boys are absolutely delicious. The screen quality is not, sorry. But it doesn't matter because Cody is LICKING HIS HAND. Guh. And biting into a lime. That tequila story by
sara_merry99 is a great companion to this scene, btw. So anyway, the reason they're here incognito is because they're in a cantina that serves the horror that is the Saspathrilla, and they're watching for Dee Dee. Nick: I feel like an extra in To Have and Have Not. He then finds out that Cody dated Dee Dee while Nick was doing 90 days for assaulting Quinlan. Cody: You know, you really gotta stop swinging on that guy. Aww. Cody doesn't want Nick to go back to jail. Unless they're sharing a cell. Anyway, Dee Dee shows up with a "whitewaller" (a guy with a lot of money) in tow, wearing a revealing outfit, and the boys then have proof that she's a scammer. She orders the Saspathrilla, and Cody points this out gleefully. Nick: What do you want, the good hunting medal? Also, weirdly enough, at the end of the scene Cody says a line that's clearly dubbed. What's weird about it is that the line that's dubbed in is let's see where she hangs her skintight purple jumpsuit, but that doesn't quite look like what his lips are saying. I mean, I can't actually read lips, but because I do have some hearing troubles and sometimes I can tell when lips are not matched up with words. It might be that it's just poorly dubbed.

Even in cheesy fedoras, the boys' elemental hotness shines through. Notice that they're coordinated with their outfits. What do you want to bet that Cody picked them out?

Too bad I can get a great shot of the Saspathrilla, but not of the boys.

Outside the restaurant, two poor souls are trapped in Mexican Restaurant Purgatory. She is doomed to dance, and he is doomed to play the guitar for all eternity. Theirs was a passionate tale of forbidden lust, and now they must endure their fate, so close, yet so far, a reminder of their broken oaths and the punishment they so justly deserve.

This just so looks like Date Night. Y'know, Nick taking Cody out for a spin. heh. Anyway, Dee Dee ditches the whitewaller in the parking lot, and Nick and Cody follow her and her skintight purple jumpsuit back to the Mean Dude Compound.

I believe the boys actually perform this stunt. They get up over the fence rather nicely. Yes, I watched that a few times.

Over and over again they prove that they need only touch each other or look into each other's eyes to communicate.

Um, the hand on the back thing? Is sustained. For several steps. It's quite yummy. And Cody's hand ends up straying down to Nick's posterior at the end. There is so much touching it's kind of crazy.

Cody looks like he's posing for Charlie's Angels.

Love in the flowers. It's a beautiful thing. Anyway, the boys spy Lane. Cody goes to split up from Nick. Nick: We're going to break him outta here. You and me, together. But then Cody points out that someone has to get Dee Dee. ha! In Nick's mind, he's written her off already as a golddigger, and that they shouldn't waste their time on her. Cody tells him to "borrow a car" and they'll meet out back, and they split up. Uh, so what happened to the car they drove up in? Maybe it would be too much work to go get it. Still, did they rent it? That'll be one hell of an expense for GotW. Heh. Or maybe they "borrowed" that one, too.

Nick: "Kiss me. For good luck."
